Finfluential, a Substack publication from Lowe Group covering innovation in financial influencers, has released the results of its first-ever 'Centers of Finfluence' survey. The survey, which polled over 60 financial professionals, asked respondents to name the three voices they follow most closely in the industry. Michael Kitces, creator of the Nerd's Eye View blog, secured the top spot, while Morningstar's Christine Benz and Wall Street Journal columnist Jason Zweig tied for second place.
'Financial media is more crowded than ever with new voices constantly vying for attention, but a small number of people continue to set the terms of the conversation,' said Finfluential Editor Greg Joslyn. 'Our first Centers of Finfluence recognizes three individuals who've earned their influence over decades, not overnight.'
Kitces has spent 18 years turning his Nerd's Eye View blog into one of the industry's most-read sources of technical education for financial advisors, now reaching a large monthly readership and anchoring a wider business built around advisor training. Benz has spent over 30 years at Morningstar, most recently as its Director of Personal Finance and Retirement Planning, and has used that platform to build The Long View into a leading retirement- and investing-focused podcast featuring top names in the field. She also pens a column that is a must-read for retirement industry professionals. Zweig has spent years holding Wall Street accountable through his Wall Street Journal column, The Intelligent Investor, a mix of hard-hitting investigative work with plain-spoken reminders about fees, complexity and market realities — output that's earned him some of financial journalism's top honors.
What unites the three is staying power: each built a distinctive, consistent voice over a long career. The implications of this survey are significant for the financial industry, as it highlights the enduring trust placed in established voices amid a crowded media landscape. For readers and professionals, these influencers continue to shape investment strategies, retirement planning, and regulatory scrutiny. The recognition underscores the value of deep expertise and long-term credibility over transient popularity.
Finfluential will publish its runners-up list next week, along with a look at which voices resonated most with different types of audiences. The full survey results and methodology are available on the Finfluential Substack publication.
