Finnish Premium Water Brand AINA Enters U.S. Market in Bag-in-Box Format, Targeting Sustainability-Minded Retailers

NWB Finland Oy has completed its participation in the 2026 ECRM Vitamin, Weight Management & Sports Nutrition Session in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where the Finnish company introduced U.S. retail buyers to AINA Natural Water and a different approach to the premium water category. Rather than competing for space as another individually bottled premium water, AINA enters the U.S. market in larger 5-liter and 10-liter bag-in-box formats. NWB Finland Oy used its ECRM participation to highlight how that format can give retailers a distinctive product for their water assortment while addressing growing consumer interest in packaging waste and sustainability.

"ECRM gave us an opportunity to introduce retailers to both AINA Natural Water and the thinking behind the product," said Marita Weiman, Quality Assurance Manager at NWB Finland Oy. "We believe there is an opportunity to approach premium water differently, with a format that stands apart at retail and gives consumers an alternative to purchasing water in individual plastic bottles."

AINA Natural Water combines two elements NWB Finland Oy believes can help differentiate the brand in the U.S. market: naturally filtered groundwater from Northern Finland and sustainability-focused packaging designed for everyday use. For retailers, the bag-in-box format offers a visually different presentation from conventional bottled water while providing a straightforward sustainability story that can be communicated to shoppers. The larger format is designed for use in homes, offices, hospitality settings and other environments where consumers want convenient access to premium drinking water. By packaging multiple liters in a single bag-in-box, AINA also uses substantially less plastic than comparable volumes packaged in individual plastic bottles.

"Retail buyers see a tremendous number of new products, so differentiation matters," Weiman said. "Our conversations at ECRM gave us the opportunity to explain why the AINA format is an important part of the brand, not simply the container the water comes in."

AINA Natural Water originates in the Pudasjärvi region of Northern Finland, where groundwater is naturally filtered through layers of soil, sand and rock before being mechanically filtered and packaged. The water contains approximately 32 mg/L of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Its naturally low mineral content contributes to AINA's soft, neutral taste and clean finish.

NWB Finland Oy's ECRM participation comes as the company moves from introducing AINA to the U.S. market to making the product available to American consumers. AINA Natural Water is coming to OneLavi.com, representing the brand's first U.S. consumer availability. The company is also preparing inventory for shipment from Finland to the United States as it moves forward with its U.S. launch.

"For us, ECRM was another step in building AINA's presence in the United States," Weiman said. "We came to show retailers that premium water can offer something different through its source, its format and the story retailers can share with their customers."

The move reflects broader trends in the beverage industry, where consumers and retailers are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and seeking alternatives to single-use plastics. By offering a premium water in a larger, bag-in-box format, NWB Finland Oy is positioning AINA as a distinctive option that could appeal to environmentally conscious shoppers and businesses looking to reduce their plastic footprint. For U.S. retailers, the product offers a way to differentiate their water aisles and tap into the growing demand for eco-friendly packaging. As the company prepares to ship inventory from Finland, its success will depend on whether American consumers embrace the format and the story behind the water. The launch also highlights the global reach of Nordic natural resources and the potential for innovative packaging to disrupt traditional categories.
