FleetCollect, a trucking compliance software platform serving owner-operators and small fleets across all 50 states, has launched an AI connector that enables customers to ask Claude and ChatGPT about their fleet's IFTA fuel tax, DOT compliance, and carrier data in plain language. The connector is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for securely connecting AI assistants to external data and tools.
For most small carriers, the answers to everyday operating questions are already in their records—spread across quarterly IFTA reports, driver files, dispatch logs, and federal databases. Getting to them means opening the right screen and reading. The FleetCollect connector removes that step: an operator connects their FleetCollect account to an AI assistant once, then simply asks.
Ask, don't dig. With the connector enabled, a user can ask questions such as "What were my IFTA miles by state for the last quarter?", "Which of my drivers have documents expiring in the next 30 days?", "How many dispatch loads have I run and what's my total revenue?", or "What's my drug-testing status?"—and receive a direct, plain-language answer drawn from their own FleetCollect data.
Live FMCSA carrier vetting. Beyond a carrier's own records, the connector can vet any motor carrier by USDOT or MC number using live Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration data—returning operating authority, insurance, and safety information on request, so brokers and dispatchers can check a partner without leaving the conversation.
Read-only and privacy-filtered by design. All 14 tools in the connector are read-only: the AI can look up and summarize information, but it cannot change, delete, or order anything. Driver personally identifiable information—emails, phone numbers, and license numbers—is filtered and never returned. Every request is scoped to the authenticated account, so an operator only ever sees their own data.
Secured with modern authentication. The connector uses OAuth 2.1 with Dynamic Client Registration and PKCE, the current standard for third-party application access, so users authorize the connection with their existing FleetCollect login and can revoke it at any time.
"Owner-operators didn't get into trucking to click through dashboards," said Herman Armstrong, founder of FleetCollect. "We built this so a driver can just ask—'what do I owe in IFTA,' 'which of my guys is about to expire,' 'is this carrier legit'—and get a straight answer from their own numbers. We made it read-only and privacy-filtered on purpose: it answers questions, it doesn't touch your data."
Availability. The FleetCollect connector is available to customers with an active FleetCollect subscription and is being submitted to the Claude connector directory and the ChatGPT app directory.
