Gerresheimer, a global partner for the pharma, biotech and cosmetic industries, has once again been awarded Gold by the sustainability rating provider EcoVadis. The company improved its overall score from 78 in 2025 to 82 out of 100 points in the latest assessment. This places Gerresheimer among the top 5% of all companies rated by EcoVadis and within the top 2% in its industry, according to the announcement distributed via NEWMEDIAWIRE.
EcoVadis evaluates more than 175,000 companies each year across four categories: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Gerresheimer has relied on EcoVadis for independent assessment of its sustainability management since 2011. The company first achieved Gold status in 2022 with a score of 68 out of 100 and has steadily improved since. The 2026 rating underscores Gerresheimer's progress in consistently implementing its sustainability targets, particularly in sustainable procurement, where it ranks among the top 1% in its industry.
"With the improved EcoVadis rating and our first voluntary report based on the CSRD, we are making our sustainability performance measurable and transparent for our customers," said Wolf Lehmann, CFO of Gerresheimer AG. "We remain committed to consistently pursuing our ambitious sustainability targets in the future."
The EcoVadis rating is based on internationally recognized standards, including the UN Global Compact, International Labor Organization conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative, ISO 26000, the CERES Principles, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. This comprehensive framework covers a wide range of information on company performance while taking industry-specific characteristics into account.
For the 2025 financial year, Gerresheimer voluntarily submitted an audited, non-financial consolidated report based on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) for the first time, significantly advancing the structure of its sustainability reporting. The report is available for download here. In addition, the company discloses relevant data annually on the EcoVadis platform and as part of the CDP rating. MSCI, Sustainalytics, and ISS also evaluate Gerresheimer's sustainability performance, and an overview of these external assessments is available here.
The improved rating matters for Gerresheimer's customers in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and cosmetic sectors, who increasingly demand sustainable packaging and delivery solutions. With 39 production sites across Europe, America, and Asia, and revenues of around EUR 2.3 billion in 2025, the company employs over 13,000 people. Its sustainability performance is now more measurable and transparent, which can enhance its competitive position. The top 1% ranking in sustainable procurement highlights the importance of responsible supply chains in achieving overall sustainability goals. As regulators and stakeholders focus more on environmental, social, and governance criteria, Gerresheimer's Gold rating and CSRD-aligned reporting may set a benchmark for others in the industry.
