The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has launched its 60th anniversary celebrations with the 'Design Gallery on the Move' campaign, a mobile exhibition that will tour 16 locations across Hong Kong from May 29 to June 18. The initiative features 36 Hong Kong brands and over 60 products across six thematic zones, including DG Delights – Hong Kong themed, DG Discover, DG Delights - IP, DG Green, DG Luxe, DG Silver Market & DG Mini. Visitors can explore the unique stories behind local brands and purchase items at Design Gallery's physical stores or online, with discount coupons available for online shoppers during the campaign period.
Professor Frederick Ma, HKTDC Chairman, emphasized the significance of the campaign in carrying forward the HKTDC's six-decade mission of promoting Hong Kong enterprises globally. He recalled early efforts such as converting a cargo truck into a mobile exhibition in 1967 to promote Hong Kong products in Africa, and setting up a temporary showroom outside the Nuremberg International Toy Fair when exhibition space was unavailable. This flexible, resilient approach, embodying the Lion Rock spirit, continues with the mobile exhibition bringing original Hong Kong brands into local communities.
The campaign is part of a broader series of themed initiatives to mark the HKTDC's 60th anniversary, including a themed tram, the 'Next 60 Forum', a cocktail reception, a giveaway during the Hong Kong Book Fair, a community art co-creation event, and an anniversary exhibition. These activities span exhibitions, community engagement, and industry events, aiming to support Hong Kong enterprises and celebrate the milestone with the community.
To further celebrate, Design Gallery is offering a '60 items at 40% off' promotion at its Wan Chai Convention and Exhibition Centre store from May to July, featuring 20 selected items each month across categories like gifts, homeware, and fashion accessories. Design Gallery promotes around 400 Hong Kong brands annually through its physical stores at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Hong Kong International Airport, its online store launched in 2021, and presence on major mainland e-commerce platforms since 2010. It operates 72 sales points across 27 mainland cities, including over 30 in the Greater Bay Area, and expanded into ASEAN markets last year via cross-border e-commerce.
The HKTDC, established in 1966, is a statutory body that promotes, assists, and develops Hong Kong's trade. With over 50 offices globally, including 13 in the Chinese Mainland, it organizes international exhibitions, conferences, and business missions to create opportunities for companies, particularly SMEs, in mainland and international markets. The 'Design Gallery on the Move' campaign underscores the HKTDC's commitment to showcasing Hong Kong's creativity and supporting local businesses, reinforcing its role as a two-way global investment and business hub.
