Ocumetics Begins Patient Recruitment for Group Two Clinical Study of Next-Generation Intraocular Lens

Ocumetics Technology Corp. (TSXV: OTC) (OTCQB: OTCFF) (FRA: 2QBO) announced that its clinical facility in Mexico City has started recruiting patients for Group Two of its ongoing human clinical study of the Ocumetics Lens, an accommodating intraocular lens designed to potentially eliminate the need for corrective lenses. The surgeries are targeted for fall 2026, following the successful completion of Group One surgeries in fall 2025.

Unlike Group One, which focused solely on safety, Group Two will evaluate the safety, distance, and near vision performance of the lens. This marks a significant step forward in the clinical development of a technology that aims to provide clear vision at all distances by mimicking the eye's natural focusing mechanism.

“We are extremely excited to begin the process of moving into our larger Group Two study. Commencement of this study represents another important milestone in the continued clinical development of the Ocumetics Lens. Recruiting will be completed soon and we will schedule surgical dates shortly thereafter,” said Dean Burns, President and CEO of Ocumetics.

Group Two patients will receive the latest-generation Ocumetics Lens, which incorporates the company's most recent design advancements, and will be implanted using an enhanced delivery system. This next-generation combination represents the continued evolution of the technology and underscores the company's commitment to developing a differentiated solution for patients seeking improved vision across a broader range of distances.

The announcement comes as Group One patients are approaching their 12-month follow-up visits, an important milestone that will provide longer-term clinical data. The Group One clinical outcomes met and exceeded the company's expectations regarding safety, performance, and handling of the lens, providing valuable insights that have informed the design refinements for the Group Two study.

“We are particularly excited to reach the 12-month milestone for our Group One patients, which will provide an important body of longer-term clinical data as we continue to advance the Ocumetics Lens,” Burns added. “At the same time, the Group Two study represents an important step forward as we introduce our next-generation Ocumetics Lens together with our next-generation lens delivery system.”

The Ocumetics Lens is designed to fit within the natural lens compartment of the eye, allowing the eye's natural muscle activity to shift focus from distance to near without perceptible time lag. If successful, this technology could eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses for many patients, potentially transforming cataract and refractive surgery.

The clinical study is being conducted at a facility in Mexico City, which successfully performed Group One surgeries. The recruitment process is underway, and the company expects to finalize patient selection and schedule surgeries in the coming months.

Ocumetics is a Canadian research and product development company focused on developing advanced vision correction solutions. The company's shares are listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, OTCQB, and Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The company's forward-looking statements are based on current expectations and are subject to risks and uncertainties, including the successful completion of the clinical trial and regulatory approvals. As with any clinical development, there can be no assurance that the results will lead to commercialization, but the progress so far marks a promising step in the field of ophthalmology.
