SBF AG, a publicly traded specialist in rolling stock solutions, lighting, electromechanics, and sensor technology, has received a new order from PESA, a leading Polish rolling stock manufacturer, to equip new trams for Krakow. The contract, valued at approximately 6 million euros, covers the outfitting of 90 vehicles in three- and four-car configurations. Production is scheduled to begin with the first delivery planned for March 2027, and deliveries are expected to continue through 2030.
SBF will supply the interior ceilings—including the air conditioning ducts—the interior lighting, and the support structure for the new platform. This order represents the second joint project between SBF and PESA, following the tram project for Leipzig. The company sees potential in this collaboration for further projects in tram interior design.
Robert Stocklinger, Member of the Management Board of SBF AG, said, “Our partnership with PESA is a strong testament to the reliability and quality of our services. This expands our customer base to include yet another leading European vehicle manufacturer. The contract demonstrates that our system expertise in interior headliners and lighting is in demand even on new vehicle platforms.”
The deal underscores SBF’s position as a Tier 1 systems supplier to the global rolling stock industry. The company develops and manufactures solutions for rolling stock, lighting, electromechanics, and sensor technology, with development and manufacturing taking place almost exclusively at its own facilities in Germany and Europe. This vertical integration is increasingly a key criterion for clients in the critical infrastructure sector when awarding contracts. In its Rolling Stock segment, SBF supplies complex interior, ceiling, and lighting systems “Made in Germany” and is emerging as a systems partner for safety-critical interior functions.
For PESA, the contract ensures a reliable partner for interior components as it fulfills the Krakow tram order. For SBF, the order adds a new leading European vehicle manufacturer to its customer base and demonstrates that its system expertise is in demand even on new vehicle platforms. The collaboration could lead to further projects in tram interior design, strengthening SBF’s market position.
