Search Atlas Rebuilds Its Website on Next.js to Shed WordPress Plugin Overhead

Search Atlas Rebuilds Its Website on Next.js to Shed WordPress Plugin Overhead

Search Atlas, the AI-powered SEO and marketing platform serving more than 30,000 customers and 5,000 agencies worldwide, has completed a full migration of its own website, searchatlas.com, from WordPress to Next.js. The company, which had built its site on WordPress over eight years, says the move was driven by the need to reduce plugin overhead and meet the performance demands of AI-driven search and agentic browsers.

WordPress, an open-source platform popular for its ease of use and extensibility, became increasingly difficult to maintain as the site scaled. Each new page template, plugin, or theme customization added layers of complexity, a pattern common among fast-growing companies that outgrow the platform's original design for smaller footprints. Search Atlas determined that with AI search and agentic browsers changing how people and machines find and read websites, speed and performance carry greater weight than ever before. The plugin-and-theme architecture of WordPress, while flexible, works against that goal, as every added plugin means more code for browsers to load and more potential points of failure.

By rebuilding searchatlas.com as a static HTML site on Next.js, Search Atlas has replaced a legacy build that accumulated overhead with each new feature with one designed to load fast and remain fast as the site grows. The company emphasizes that the more significant shift is not the technology stack itself, but who manages the site. With the migration complete, the entire website is now under the direct, agentic management of the Search Atlas platform and its Atlas Agent. Technical fixes, on-page SEO changes, and new landing pages that previously required a ticket to a developer familiar with WordPress's specifics are now handled directly through the platform, covering technical fixes, on-page SEO, conversion rate improvements, paid-media landing pages, and A/B and multivariate testing—agentically, inside the same platform the company offers to its customers.

Search Atlas is presenting the migration as a practical proof point rather than an internal engineering update. The company's own marketing site now serves as a live example of the agentic website management its platform offers, operating without the plugin sprawl and maintenance overhead associated with WordPress at scale. For prospective customers evaluating whether an AI-managed site can perform in production under real traffic, Search Atlas points to its own domain—built and maintained using the same methods available to its customers—as the working test case.

“We built our own site on WordPress for eight years because it was easy, and then we outgrew it the same way our customers do,” said Arman Advani, Partner at Search Atlas. “Moving to Next.js and putting the whole site under Atlas Agent isn't just faster pages—it's us running our own website exactly the way we tell customers to run theirs.”

The move underscores a broader industry trend: as AI search tools become more prevalent, websites must prioritize speed and efficiency to remain visible and accessible. By adopting a static, agent-managed architecture, Search Atlas positions itself at the forefront of this shift, demonstrating that AI-driven management can reduce overhead while improving performance. For businesses relying on WordPress, the migration highlights the potential limitations of plugin-heavy builds and the growing viability of AI-managed alternatives. For the SEO and marketing industry, it offers a case study in aligning website infrastructure with the demands of modern search.
