The 28th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), opened on 27 October and runs for four days at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The 11th Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo opened on 26 October and runs until 29 October at AsiaWorld-Expo. Together, the twin fairs feature some 3,000 exhibitors from more than 20 countries and regions under the theme "Beyond Illumination," according to an announcement carried by NEWMEDIAWIRE.
HKTDC Associate Executive Director Silas Chu said the fairs highlight key industry trends related to smart connectivity, healthy living, immersive spatial experiences and sustainability. The events aim to connect global buyers with industry players and foster sustainable development of the lighting industry. Exhibitors come from Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and Taiwan, as well as Australia, India, Korea, Singapore, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
The fairs matter because they showcase technologies that could reshape how buildings, cities and homes are lit. Major industry alliances in global smart lighting and IoT, including the Connectivity Standards Alliance, the DALI Alliance, the SILA-EMN Alliance and the Zhaga Consortium, are participating, with KNX making its debut. Their presence demonstrates the smart lighting ecosystem and signals growing convergence between lighting and building automation.
The Hall of Connected Lighting features some 70 leading brands, including Dimon, Inventronics, TUYA, Viso Systems, Casambi and Signify. Signify is presenting a racing simulator experience with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and displaying Philips Skylight, which simulates natural light and adjusts according to human circadian rhythms. The Hall of Aurora features some 500 renowned brands offering high-quality lighting products.
A new LED Display Solution Zone has been launched to build an LED commercial display ecosystem, featuring high-resolution LED screens, transparent displays, flexible panels and immersive visual systems for retail, events, smart cities and architectural projects. The Outdoor and Tech Light Expo features three major zones and has added photovoltaic and energy storage solutions to help cities improve energy efficiency. According to GEP Research cited in the release, the global photovoltaic lighting market is expected to reach US$18.5 billion in 2026, up 14.2% year-on-year.
The fairs also host thematic events, including the first-time partnership with the Illuminating Engineering Society for "Award-Winning Illumination" and with Women in Lighting for "Circularity in Lighting Design." The "Connected Lighting Forum" will explore human-centric lighting for emotional well-being. The HKTDC, celebrating its 60th anniversary, promotes Hong Kong as a two-way global investment and business hub through international exhibitions, conferences and business missions. It also provides market insights via research reports and digital news channels.
For industry watchers, the twin fairs offer a barometer of where lighting is heading: toward smarter, healthier and more energy-efficient systems. With the global lighting fixtures market projected to grow from US$142.52 billion in 2026 to US$221.39 billion by 2034, according to Fortune Business Insights, the solutions displayed in Hong Kong could influence procurement decisions and technology adoption worldwide. The HKTDC's Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) network of over 50 offices supports this international reach. More information is available at www.hktdc.com/aboutus.
