Local Student Wins Scholarship for Innovative Bakery Concept Addressing Food Allergies

Addison Wood, a first-year engineering student at Purdue University, has been awarded the 2024 First Coast Home Pros Young Entrepreneur Scholarship for her innovative business concept, Alchemy Bakery. The $2,500 scholarship recognizes Wood's unique approach to addressing food allergy challenges through entrepreneurship.

Inspired by her personal experience with a severe peanut allergy, Wood's proposed bakery would offer baked goods free of the nine most common food allergens. Her business idea stands out for its authentic solution to a critical dietary challenge faced by many individuals with food sensitivities.

While pursuing a Civil Engineering degree with a concentration in Transportation and Infrastructure Systems, Wood has demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial potential. Beyond her academic pursuits, she is actively involved in campus organizations, supporting charitable causes through Chi Omega and Higher Ground Dance Company.

Wood's long-term goals include interning during her college years, working in engineering after graduation, and eventually earning an MBA to launch her own business. The scholarship provides financial support and motivation for her entrepreneurial journey.
