UGI Utilities is set to launch an extensive infrastructure improvement project next week, targeting natural gas main and service line replacements in several key areas near the State Capitol in Harrisburg. The comprehensive upgrades will impact multiple streets and potentially disrupt local transportation and utility services.
The construction project, scheduled to run daily from 7 am to 5 pm, including weekends, will affect eight separate street segments. Affected areas include North 10th Street, Walnut Street, North Court Street, North 2nd and 3rd Streets, Pine Street, South Street, and Oliver Alley. Residents, drivers, and business owners should anticipate road closures, detours, and traffic delays throughout the construction period.
The utility company warns of potential interruptions to natural gas service, which will require property access to inspect and relight equipment. Parking restrictions will be in place on the impacted streets during construction hours, potentially challenging local mobility.
UGI anticipates completing the infrastructure upgrades by the end of June, though weather and working conditions may influence the final timeline. Following the underground work, additional paving and restoration efforts will be conducted at a later date.
