Ascent Solar Technologies has secured a significant partnership with NOVI Space Inc. to supply rollable photovoltaic array blankets for satellite deployment, marking another milestone in the company's expansion into the space technology market.
The Master Services Agreement enables NOVI Space to utilize Ascent's lightweight, flexible CIGS thin-film solar cells in its upcoming AI-powered satellite constellation scheduled for launch in early 2026. This collaboration represents a strategic advancement for both companies, with NOVI gaining access to cutting-edge solar technology and Ascent receiving critical operational performance data to enhance future product development.
Ascent Solar's competitive advantage lies in its ability to rapidly produce solar arrays, with a delivery timeline of six to eight weeks compared to competitors' nine to twelve-month lead times. The company's 5MW production facility in Thornton, Colorado, is positioned to ship over 100kW of solar arrays this summer, demonstrating its manufacturing capacity and technological prowess.
The partnership extends beyond a single project, with potential long-term implications for space exploration technology. Ascent has already collaborated with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and is in discussions with multiple strategic partners, including DARPA and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
CEO Paul Warley emphasized the company's unique capability to deliver power solutions quickly, noting that their thin-film photovoltaic technology removes significant barriers in spacecraft mission scheduling. The rollable, lightweight solar cells are particularly attractive for space applications, performing effectively in challenging environments.
