Colorado FIRST has announced the passing of Tony English, a Board Director and Executive Director, who died on June 16, 2025. English was a mechanical engineer, Army veteran, and co-owner of Neaera Consulting Group, known for his work in connected and automated vehicle systems. His dedication to STEM education began in 2006 with the launch of a FIRST® LEGO® League team for his children, which evolved into Team 4499 "The Highlanders", impacting over 150 students and fostering STEM careers.
English's contributions to STEM education were nationally recognized in 2015 when he received the Woody Flowers Finalist Award. Joining the Colorado FIRST Board of Directors in May 2022, he aimed to broaden access to FIRST programs across Colorado. His vision and leadership have left an indelible mark on the organization and the students it serves.
In response to this loss, the Colorado FIRST Board has appointed Debbie English as the new Executive Director and Board Member. Debbie, a long-standing Program Leader and current Program Delivery Partner for the FIRST Robotics Competition, shares Tony's commitment to advancing STEM opportunities for youth.
