ADAP Advocacy has launched a new digital commercial as part of its ongoing 340B Project, aiming to amplify calls for reform of the 340B Drug Pricing Program. The commercial reinforces the central message of a policy paper the organization published earlier this year under the same title, "340B PROGRAM: The Glue That Should Hold Our Healthcare System Together." The commercial will air across numerous digital and social platforms, continuing ADAP Advocacy's '340B Too Big To Fail' national advocacy campaign.
The 340B Program, which allows certain hospitals and providers to purchase outpatient drugs at reduced prices, has become a backbone for services such as HIV care, according to the press release. However, ADAP Advocacy argues that the program's size, magnitude, and importance cannot be entrusted to good faith alone. The organization contends that improved accountability and transparency guardrails are needed to ensure the program's success and to benefit its intended beneficiaries: patients.
Brandon M. Macsata, CEO of ADAP Advocacy, stated that the debate over whether to reform the 340B Program has largely been settled. "For patients, it is failing to deliver on its promise of expanding affordable healthcare, as shown by the growing medical debt crisis in this country, much of it owed to hospitals," Macsata said. He added that the new digital commercial moves the debate forward as Congress considers 340B legislation.
The commercial highlights hospitals' declining charity care, rising healthcare executive compensation, and exploding patient medical debt, among other issues. It is available online at https://tinyurl.com/bdea39d2.
ADAP Advocacy's mission is to promote and enhance the AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) and improve access to care for persons living with HIV/AIDS. The organization works with advocates, community members, health care providers, government officials, patients, pharmaceutical companies, and other stakeholders to raise awareness, offer patient education programs, and foster greater community collaboration.
This announcement matters because the 340B Program affects nearly every area of the healthcare ecosystem, and proposed reforms could have far-reaching implications for how hospitals and providers operate, how patients access affordable medications, and how the government oversees drug pricing. As Congress weighs legislation, the commercial aims to influence public opinion and legislative action by putting patient stories and financial pressures front and center.
