Clym Environmental Opens New Ozone-Based Waste Processing Facility in Frostburg, Maryland

Clym Environmental Services, LLC (Clym) officially opened its new processing facility in Frostburg, Maryland, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The event drew more than 100 attendees, including elected officials, industry leaders, and community partners, who gathered to celebrate the milestone. The ceremony included a VIP tour of the facility and informational displays about the company's ozone treatment technology, as well as a rendering of the soon-to-be-completed interior. Energy Select, the solar company responsible for the facility's solar installation, also hosted a display highlighting the benefits of the new solar system that will power Clym's operations.

The program featured remarks from several regional and state leaders, including Juli McCoy, President & CEO of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce; Richard Police, Director of Business Development at Clym; Charles Watts, President of Clym Environmental; Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker; Allegany County Commissioner Bill Atkinson; Jeff Barclay, Director of Allegany County Economic Development; and Kelly Schulz, CEO of the Maryland Tech Council. McCoy noted that Clym will create living-wage jobs and that its operations, which combine technology and environmental science, are a perfect fit for the Frostburg Business Park and Allegany County, especially given its proximity to Frostburg State University.

Clym also received a certificate of congressional recognition, presented on behalf of Congresswoman April McClain Delaney. Kendall Abruzzese, Western Maryland Outreach Coordinator for the congresswoman, delivered the certificate and praised Clym's pioneering work in environmentally friendly and innovative waste management biotechnology. She highlighted the company's contribution to workforce opportunities and long-term economic growth in Western Maryland.

The new facility will use Clym's proprietary ozone treatment technology to process biohazardous material, converting it into safe, reusable materials. The technology generates ozone from ambient air and is powered by solar energy, an approach designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional thermal treatment methods. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to play a key role in Clym's continued growth across the eastern United States, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable waste management practices for the life sciences, healthcare, and pharmaceutical industries.

The ribbon-cutting follows several milestones for the Frostburg project, including Clym being named the Life Sciences Innovation of the Year winner at the Maryland Tech Council's 2026 ICON Awards. This recognition underscores the significance of the facility and its innovative approach to waste management.

The opening of the Frostburg facility has notable implications for the region and the industry. For Allegany County, it promises the creation of living-wage jobs and positions the area as a hub for environmental technology and innovation. The collaboration with Frostburg State University could foster research and educational opportunities. For the waste management sector, the adoption of ozone-based, solar-powered treatment represents a shift toward greener alternatives, potentially setting a precedent for other companies to follow. This move aligns with broader trends toward sustainability and reduced carbon footprints in industrial processes.
