Drug Free World Engages Pasadena Community at National Night Out, Promoting Youth Education and Safety

The Pasadena Police Department's National Night Out event, held on the evening of August 7, 2026, served as a platform for community engagement, featuring an interactive display of specialized gear and emergency response equipment. Officers demonstrated the hardware and answered questions from attendees. The department's Mounted Enforcement Unit also made a special appearance on horseback, delighting families and highlighting its role in community policing.

Among the various informational booths, the Drug Free World mobile exhibit made a significant impact, engaging hundreds of community members, youth, and local leaders in proactive discussions about substance abuse prevention. A large number of children and young people stepped forward to take the pledge to live a drug-free life, demonstrating a strong community commitment to health and safety.

The event marked collaborative milestones for ongoing drug awareness initiatives in the region. The Pasadena Library formally accepted a supply of educational booklets to be made publicly available for families and students. Additionally, the Elks Club Drug Awareness Program acquired 400 educational booklets to distribute through their community outreach programs.

A standout moment involved an 8-year-old boy who, alongside his older sister, had just taken the Drug-Free Pledge. After receiving a Truth About Drugs booklet, he was encouraged to use it to protect himself, his friends, and his family. Spotting a public service announcement about the dangers of alcohol playing on the booth's television, the boy asked, "Oh wow! If you do drugs, can you get into an accident like the one in the video?" After receiving confirmation and learning that additional educational videos were available online, he eagerly asked for the website address, stating, "I'm going to watch all the videos."

This engagement underscores the importance of educational initiatives in empowering youth to make informed decisions. The Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a nonprofit public benefit corporation, provides factual information about drugs to help individuals make informed choices and live drug-free. With a network of some 200 chapters globally, the foundation, supported by sponsors such as the Church of Scientology, offers the secular Truth About Drugs program and materials free of charge.

Through its worldwide network of volunteers, the foundation has distributed 100 million drug prevention booklets, held tens of thousands of drug awareness events in about 180 countries, and aired Truth About Drugs public service announcements on more than 500 television stations. These efforts have helped people globally learn about the destructive effects of drugs and decide not to use them.

The event highlighted the ongoing need for community-based drug education and the positive impact of collaborative efforts between law enforcement, libraries, and nonprofit organizations. By providing accessible resources and engaging youth in meaningful conversations, such initiatives contribute to building safer, drug-free communities.
