Hong Kong Lighting and Eco Expos Draw 62,000 Buyers, Survey Shows Industry Optimism

The 28th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) and the 11th Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo, both organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), together with the 21st Eco Expo Asia, jointly organised by the HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, have concluded successfully. The three exhibitions attracted some 62,000 buyers from 152 countries and regions, with buyers from outside Hong Kong mainly coming from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, India, Korea, the US, and ASEAN countries including Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

HKTDC Associate Executive Director Silas Chu said the three major exhibitions received an enthusiastic response, demonstrating Hong Kong's advantages as an international trade platform. The lighting fairs focused on innovative solutions such as smart connectivity, healthy living and LED display technologies, while Eco Expo Asia enhanced international participation and introduced, for the first time, an ASEAN Pavilion and the GoGlobal Connect Zone to provide B2G, B2B and B2C matching opportunities. Aligned with Hong Kong's first Five-Year Plan and the latest Policy Address, the Expo facilitated the linkage of Chinese Mainland and international markets.

An independent survey of more than 740 exhibitors and buyers during the twin lighting fairs found that 63% of respondents expect sales to increase over the next two years, while 34% anticipate sales will remain unchanged. The Chinese Mainland (85%), the Middle East (84%) and ASEAN (84%) were identified as the most promising markets. Respondents foresaw artificial intelligence (54%), technological advancement (44%) and smart city development (43%) as the top three driving factors of industry growth, and 86% viewed the market potential of smart lighting over the next two years as promising or very promising.

Under the theme "Beyond Illumination", the lighting fairs showcased leading smart lighting solutions. The Hall of Connected Lighting brought together some 70 leading local and international brands, including Signify, which teamed up with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team to present a racing simulator experience. Steve Jiang, Sales Leader of OEM Greater China at Signify, said the fair's international positioning has made it indispensable to expanding the company's global presence, and that a partnership stemming from the 2023 fair has generated an annual business volume of RMB15 million. The new LED Display Solution zone debuted this year, with Hong Kong exhibitor Ledman Hong Kong presenting its LEDHUB Smart Conference Solution and QS Series IceScreen LED Display, the latter used at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. The company is currently in negotiations for orders of US$800,000.

Chinese Mainland exhibitor Zhejiang Fonda Technology Co Ltd, a leading supplier of smart lighting controllers, expects sales generated from the four-day Outdoor and Tech Light Expo to exceed US$1 million. Czech buyer Precilum s.r.o. said it had identified two potential suppliers and plans to source US$3 million worth of lighting products through the twin lighting fairs. Exhibitors and buyers can continue business discussions through the Click2Match smart business matching platform, with the online exhibitions for the Autumn Lighting Fair and the Outdoor and Tech Light Expo running until 6 November.

Eco Expo Asia raised its international profile with over 340 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions and 18 pavilions, including the debut ASEAN Pavilion and Qinghai Pavilion. More than 30 forums and thematic sessions featured over 80 government officials, industry leaders and experts, drawing more than 4,400 visits. The Expo also introduced the GoGlobal Connect Zone, providing Chinese Mainland green enterprises with complimentary matching services to connect with Hong Kong professional services for overseas expansion. The online component of Eco Expo Asia remains open until 5 November.

The events matter because the survey results signal industry confidence in sales growth, particularly in the Chinese Mainland, Middle East and ASEAN markets, while the expanded international participation at Eco Expo Asia underscores Hong Kong's role as a connector between the Chinese Mainland and the world. For businesses, the fairs provided concrete business-matching outcomes and a platform to capture opportunities in smart lighting and green technology. The HKTDC, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, promotes Hong Kong as a two-way global investment and business hub through international exhibitions, conferences and business missions, and provides market insights via research reports and digital news channels.
