Numa Numa Resources Advances Integrated Mining and Infrastructure Portfolio in Bougainville

Numa Numa Resources Inc. is making strides in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville with an integrated portfolio that combines resource development with essential infrastructure. The company is focused on the planned reconstruction of the historic Panguna Mine, a major copper-gold deposit that retains substantial remaining resources. In addition to Panguna, Numa Numa is pursuing exploration at Mainoki and Karato, developing the Manetai Limestone and Lime Project, and advancing the Bougainville Power & Light Project, which could generate up to 10 megawatts of hydroelectric and solar power.

The Panguna Mine, developed by Rio Tinto, was once the largest open-cut copper and gold mine in the world, operating from 1972 to 1989 before being closed due to the civil conflict known as "the Crisis." The Bougainville Peace Agreement in 2001 ended the war and granted Bougainville limited autonomy, including its own constitution, which resulted in ownership of the mine reverting to its customary landowners. Today, the mine's copper, gold, and silver ore resources remain largely untapped, and the fully explored ore body is estimated to be worth approximately $100 billion.

Most geologists who have studied Bougainville believe that nearby locations such as Mainoki and Karato are highly prospective and may contain ore deposits similar in size and scale to Panguna. Numa Numa is working with customary landowners to advance these opportunities while positioning major mining companies as future development and operating partners. The company's strategy is to combine resource development with the industrial inputs and infrastructure needed to support long-term mining activity in the region.

The Bougainville Power & Light Project is a key component of this strategy, aiming to provide reliable and sustainable power for mining operations and local communities. The Manetai Limestone and Lime Project is intended to supply essential materials for construction and processing, further integrating the portfolio.

Numa Numa Resources is headquartered in Bougainville, where its management has lived and worked for over a decade, giving the company deep local knowledge and relationships. This presence is crucial for navigating the complex social and political landscape of the region and for ensuring that development benefits all stakeholders.

The advancement of these projects could have significant implications for Bougainville's economy, potentially creating jobs, fostering local businesses, and generating revenue for the autonomous government. For the global mining industry, the reconstruction of Panguna offers access to a world-class deposit that has remained dormant for decades, and the exploration targets at Mainoki and Karato could reveal additional large-scale resources.
