The PNE Group has concluded the sale of a 250 MW photovoltaic (PV) project in South Africa's Free State province to a major South African independent power producer. The transaction, announced by the Cuxhaven, Germany-based company, marks another milestone in its project development activities in the dynamic South African market.
Following the sale, PNE South Africa will continue to develop the project by providing project development support to the investor through to Financial Close. This ongoing involvement allows PNE to contribute its expertise to the project's further development while realizing value from its pipeline.
"With the sale of this strategic, large scale PV project we are continuing our successful project development activities in South Africa. The transaction demonstrates that our local teams are able to develop attractive projects in international growth markets and successfully market them. At the same time, we remain involved in the project and contribute our expertise to its further development," said Roland Stanze, COO of PNE AG. "The transaction also underlines our ability to continuously realise value from our extensive project pipeline and to sell projects at the appropriate time."
South Africa is an important international market for PNE. As of June 2026, the PNE Group's project pipeline in the country comprised around 2,000 MW of PV and around 2,800 MW of wind energy. This substantial pipeline positions PNE as a significant player in South Africa's renewable energy sector, which is increasingly focused on expanding its generation capacity to meet growing demand and reduce reliance on conventional sources.
The PNE Group, listed in the SDAX, has more than 30 years of experience as a project developer in onshore and offshore wind farms. Its focus includes the development of wind energy and photovoltaic projects worldwide as well as power generation with its own wind farms. The company's portfolio covers all project planning phases, from site investigation, permitting procedures and financing through to construction, operation and repowering. As a Clean Energy Solutions Provider, PNE also offers services for the entire life cycle of wind farms and photovoltaic power plants, as well as battery storage solutions for more efficient use of renewable energies.
The sale of the 250 MW PV project highlights PNE's ability to develop and market large-scale renewable energy projects in international growth markets. For readers and industry observers, the transaction signals continued investment in South Africa's renewable energy sector and demonstrates how experienced developers can contribute to the country's energy transition while generating value from their project pipelines.
